3 Tips for Natural Skin Care

3 Tips for Natural Skin Care This Summer...

Tip 1: Give Yourself a Dry Brush Exfoliation

A dry brush exfoliation can be done in the morning before you shower. It eliminates dead skin cells and allows the skin to detox (skin is the largest organ of elimination). Dry brush exfoliation also improves lymph and blood circulation and decreases puffiness. An added benefit is that the gentle pressure is calming to the nervous system. To give yourself a dry brush exfoliation, you'll need a soft, natural bristle brush.

Tip 2 : Avoid Excess Sugar

Most people do not realize this but excess sugar is considered one of the main causes of premature aging. The more sugar we eat, the more sugar we have entering our bloodstream. Over time, this can result in a process known as glycation, which is when a glucose (sugar) molecule damages a protein molecule by sticking to it. The new molecules formed are called advanced glycation end-products, or AGEs. AGEs damage collagen in skin, cartilage, and ligaments and promote a loss of elasticity. Wrinkles form and skin begins to sag.
  • Try This - It may seem impossible to reduce your sugar intake, but it can be done! A gradual approach works best. In the next week, choose one thing you're going to do to decrease the amount of sugar you consume. For example, start by cutting the amount of sugar in your daily coffee or tea by half. Every week, find another way you can decrease your sugar intake. Pretty soon, you'll be surprised at how far you've come!

Tip 3: Eat Some Good Fats

Essential fatty acids are simply fats your body cannot live without. They are needed to make cell membranes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Essential fats are thought to keep your heart healthy, fight inflammation, and possibly prevent cancer. They are also particularly important to people with inflammatory conditions such as eczema and acne, and also for people with dry skin. People with essential fat deficiency sometimes notice bumps on the backs of their arms. Here are my suggestions on getting more essential fats:
  • Flax-seed and walnut oil - Use flax-seed oil or walnut oil with balsamic vinegar as a salad dressing. Be sure to keep these oils refrigerated. They should not be heated or used for cooking.
  • Cold water fish - Sardines are a good source of essential fats. Salmon is another good source, however these salmon accumulate toxic poly-chlorinated biphenyls (otherwise known as PCBs) in their body fat during the 95 percent of their lives they spend at sea.
  • Supplements - Consider fish oil supplements.

It's All About What You Eat

Discover how some of the yummiest foods can help enhance your complexion. We at Skinsational did a little research and this is what we've found...

Avocados are a source of biotin, they help to prevent dry skin and brittle hair and nails.

Beta-carotene - found in carrots is a powerful antioxidant that will help keep your skin bright and vibrant while also reducing and repairing sun damage.

Grapefruit is rich  in Vitamin C which delays or reduces the process of wrinkles.

Rich in -3 fatty acids, Salmon is a skin regenerated. They help maintain cell membranes keeping it hydrated and plump.

Broccoli contains Vitamin A, a vitamin that improves the turnover of cells in the skin meaning it is renewed faster.

Tomatoes are high in Vitamin C and lycopene. Vitamin C is involved in collagen production and Lycopeneis an effective antioxidant both which fight against free radicals that damage skin cells.

Spinach contains luitein, which increases skin hydration, elasticity and skin lipid count.

Sweet Potatoes a vegetable helps free radicals flow, fighting off skin problems.

Being 97% water, Watermelon is a skin hydrator. Eating watermelon is said to be more effective than drinking water because the fluid goes directly into the cells

Green Peel, The Herbal Alternative to Chemical Peels

Think that a dramatic skin transformation can’t happen for you? Do you have problems with acne scarring, hyper pigmentation or fine lines? The Green Peel facial is for you. As you know, facial peels are all about resurfacing the skin and exposing the new, younger looking skin beneath.

What makes the Green Peel facial different? The Green Peel is a natural herbal peel, and unlike many chemical peels, there are no synthetic acids. It contains only natural ingredients derived from plants and offers a great alternative to the harsh chemical peel.

How the Green Peel works:
A mask of the Green Peel is applied to the face where it begins to increase the blood flow to the skin and exfoliate the skin. The active herbal ingredients begin to penetrate the skin and begin to peel off the outer layer of the epidermis. After the treatment you will feel like you have had a mild sunburn, and your face will be reddish.

Now you need to wait 4 days for the outer skin layer to completely fall off and have the new young skin exposed. So be sure to stay completely out of the sun!! Your skin is very exposed during these 4 days.

On the 5th day, you come back into the spa for a follow-up treatment and cleansing & nourishing facial. And guess what? You have a whole new bright healthy looking face.

Just 5 days for a non-chemical, herbal peel transformation. Just 5 days for a whole new you!

Does Drinking Water Help Treat Dry Skin?

You hear it all the time, but is it true?
It’s the middle of winter and a lot of my dermatology patients have dry skin, even in our relatively mild climate here in Coastal Northern California.  Many are perplexed about it because they’re drinking plenty of fluids.
Unfortunately, drinking water won’t fix dry skin any more than taking a bath will quench your thirst.
To hydrate your skin you have to add water and oil from the outside.  Bathing actually becomes therapeutic if you moisturize right after you towel off. Taking a bath or shower actually adds the water your dry skin needs.  If you apply a moisturizer right after you towel off then you trap that moisture and – presto – moist skin!  If you don’t apply a moisturizer then all that water evaporates, leaving you with even dryer skin.
The key is the moisturizing step! The only way to treat dry skin is with hydrating skin care!
Step 1: Bathe
Take a shower or bath in warm water, not hot, and ideally for 5 or more minutes to load your skin with water. Water temperature is important.  To treat dry skin use warm, not hot, water to bathe.  Washing your skin is just like doing the dishes in that hot water cuts oil better and you don’t want that because it dries out your skin.
Step 2: Mild soap only and use it sparingly!
